WAIM started in 1984 in the basement of a local church with the original intention of redistributing clothing to our neighbors in need. Since then, we’ve grown to an organization that, along with clothing, provides furniture, appliances, linens, career clothing and emergency financial assistance to over 8,000 people each year from Windham and twelve surrounding towns. We also manage a thriving community garden at Lauter Park in Willimantic, and provide seasonal programs to help clients make ends meet.

The mission of the Windham Area Interfaith Ministry is to uplift and unite our community by providing caring service and resources to meet our neighbors’ needs with dignity and respect. If you are a community member, volunteer, client, social worker, clergy, a foundation or a donor, I hope that you will benefit from visiting our website. The site provides you with some basic information and an overview of what we do, but if you have any questions, please feel free to call me at WAIM (860) 456-7270 extension 11. With the support of our member faith communities, foundations, United Way, area businesses and the community at large, our staff and Board of Directors are privileged to serve you. I encourage you to learn more about what we do and, if possible, to get involved. People from all backgrounds working together to help their neighbors when they need it most is truly an uplifting experience, and we invite you to join us and to share in our mission of service. – Victoria Nimirowski
