bts-2nd-fundraiser-letter-2010The Back to School Clothes Program assists working poor and low-income families by providing them with a gift certificate to purchase clothing or shoes for their school aged children (grades K-8). The program is open beginning August 3, 5 and 6, 2010 between 9:00 A.M. and Noon. August 7 from 9:00 A.M. to Noon is only for families who work and cannot come in during the weekdays. This program is funded by generous donors and funders who have supported this program during the years.

2010 Coast to Coast Motorcycle Tour to Benefit WAIM

“Coast to Coast for WAIM” is a cross country motorcycle trip to benefit the Windham Area Interfaith Ministry located in Willimantic, CT. All proceeds will benefit WAIM’s many programs for the needy. David McChesney will be riding a Honda 750cc motorcycle from Storrs, CT on May 21, 2010 and will arrive in Vista, CA on June 11, 2010. Follow the ride on his blog on the WAIM website. WAIM Report to Member Faith Communities

The Windham Area Interfaith Ministry uplifts and unites our community by providing caring service and resources to meet our neighbors’ needs with dignity and respect.

During 2008, WAIM’s provided clothing, furniture, appliances and household items to approximately 410 households each month. 809 families visited WAIM for the first time in 2008. Those served came to us from Windham/Willimantic, Mansfield/Storrs, Ashford, Andover, Bolton, Chaplin, Columbia, Coventry, Hampton, Lebanon, Scotland and Willington through the Material Goods Program. The greatest number served was from Windham/Willimantic.

During the same period, we provided energy assistance to 475 families and other Emergency Financial Assistance to 190; served 76 families through the Adopt-A-Family Program; 276 children through Back to School; 85 children through Gifts for Teens and 29 children through For Kids Only.

Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers and the great support of our congregations and community at large, our fundraisers again had successful outcomes in 2008. WAIM’s share of the Steeple Chase income was $28,386. The Walk for Warmth brought in close to $28,000, and the January Grinder Sale brought in $2,446. These annual fundraisers were supplemented by the 2008 Spring Fling Dance that brought in an additional $2,776.

The remainder of WAIM’s budget is mostly derived from contributions from individuals and congregations, United Way and other community grants, rental income and some minor income from Ebay, the community garden and truck donations.

Thank you all for everything you do to support WAIM. Without the help of our faith community volunteers and donors, we could not provide the vital service to those in our community who depend on us to be there when they need a helping hand.
