Three Good Things at WAIM Weekly Newsletter

Free Fitness Opportunity: Second Saturdays Donation Pickup

I've got some good news, some bad news, and some more good news: The good news is, WAIM's second Saturday large donation pick-up day on June 13 was a huge success! The bad news? Well, it was a huge success. Our awesome community is excited to donate goods to WAIM's Main Street Boutique. There's still more good news: You can help.

We — principally Max (left) and Olive (right) — are looking for a few highly enthusiastic, moderately healthy individuals to help on second Saturdays for a shift of approximately four hours. If riding shotgun on the truck seems daunting, we always need trustworthy volunteers stationed at the dock greeting donors while Max is on the road. If things go well, we may even expand to two pick-up days per month.

If you are interested in joining our second Saturdays team, either at the docks or on the truck, contact WAIM's office assistant, Stephanie, at officevolunteer@waimct.org or 860-456-7270 x105. To request a large donation pickup, contact Stephanie or click here to fill out the interest form.

Furniture Department & Intake Team Pinch Hitters

We need help in WAIM's second floor furniture department. This role is a light-touch customer service role, acting as checkout for customers reserving items, answering questions, and returning the phone calls of prospective donors to the shop. Shifts are available on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and the first Saturday of the month, from 9 am to 12 pm.

We could also use a couple more people to fill out the intake team. Intake team members check in clients and are our first line of hospitality.

If you are interested in learning more about either team, contact Kristin Fortier at 860-456-7270 x109 or kristinfortier@waimct.org.

Partners in Independence Program Seeks Mentors & Mentees

The Partners in Independence Program is WAIM’s adult peer mentoring program. We are seeking both volunteer mentors and learning partners! Mentors support the self-identified goals of their learning partners. Goals might include securing employment, improving budgeting skills, getting a GED, improving self-care, or starting a small business. Within the structured framework of the program, learning partners progress towards greater economic and personal stability. Both mentor and learning partner are uniquely enriched by this learning partnership.

If you are considering being a mentor or a learning partner, please contact the program manager, Merle Potchinsky, at 860-456-7270 x106 or hsmanager@waimct.org.

Volunteer Spotlight

Amare + Dwayne

Amare (left) has been a part of the WAIM community for over two years, first as a student worker in the Phoenix Academy and now as a volunteer in post-grad life! When not driving Dwayne (right) up a wall, Amare can be found helping donors at the dock and retrieving items for customers. Amare is an invaluable member of this team.

Volunteering allows us to contribute to the common good of our community and to our own development, as well. If you'd like to get involved, contact Kristin Fortier at 860-456-7270 x109 or kristinfortier@waimct.org.
