WAIM x Pedal Power
Thanks to Bill (left) and Gary (right), owners of Pedal Power in Middletown and Essex, for their continued partnership. Two years ago, they provided much of the professional equipment we use in our Bikes for Windham Program shop, and recently they provided tires, tubes, parts, and used bikes.
Through the Bikes for Windham Program, WAIM provides free, gently used bicycles to those who need it, along with a brand-new helmet and a lock. The majority of bike recipients are adults seeking reliable transportation. Bikes for Windham promotes greater independence, mobility, and healthy transportation among WAIM's clients.
All Sleep Donations
Many thanks to All Sleep in South Windham for their ongoing support of WAIM's Main Street Boutique. All Sleep has donated dozens of unused mattresses and box springs to WAIM this year alone. Before making them available to the general public, we partnered with other human service agencies to give first priority to people in especially difficult circumstances.
All Sleep's donations were a huge boon as we only accept donations of unused beds in their original plastic wrapping. This is not meant to insult potential donors. We simply remain mindful of our situation: WAIM is full of wood, plastic, and cloth. That means we have to avoid fire, water, and bed bugs at all costs to keep our operation running.
Reminder: WAIM Flea Market This Saturday
The next WAIM Flea Market is this Saturday, June 27, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on the 5th floor. All proceeds directly support WAIM's mission to uplift and unite our community by providing caring service and resources to meet our neighbors’ needs with dignity and respect.
There are only three more WAIM flea markets this year: June 27, September 19, and November 14. Get in while you can! If you see Kathy Callahan at checkout, tell her thanks for all the work she put in to make the day possible.
Volunteer Spotlight
Mark has been a volunteer bike mechanic for WAIM's Bikes for Windham Program for over a year now. Each week, Mark ensures that the bikes we distribute are road ready and a suitable size and style for the client's needs.
Volunteering allows us to contribute to the common good of our community and to our own development, as well. If you'd like to get involved, contact Kristin Fortier at 860-456-7270 x109 or kristinfortier@waimct.org.
